Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 August 2026
Locent ("the app", "we", "us") is a personal expense tracker for Android, published under the name Locent. This policy explains what data the app handles and — just as importantly — what it does not do with your data.
Locent is built to be private by design. Your financial data lives on your own device and, if you choose, in your own private Google Drive storage. We do not run a server, we have no user accounts, and we never receive, see, or store your financial information.
1. Summary (the short version)
- All your data stays on your device in a local database. There is no Locent server.
- We collect no analytics and no telemetry. The app contains no tracking or advertising SDKs.
- Backups are optional and go only to your Google Drive, in a hidden app-private folder that only Locent can access. Backups are encrypted on your device before they leave it.
- We (the developer) never have access to your accounts, transactions, categories, budgets, goals, or backups.
- The only network connections the app makes are: signing in to your own Google account, reading/writing your own backups in your own Google Drive, and checking for app updates.
2. What data Locent stores, and where
You create financial records in the app — for example accounts, transactions, categories, recurring rules, budgets, and savings goals. This data is stored only in a local database on your device. It is not transmitted to us and it is not sent to any third party, except as part of a backup you explicitly enable (see Section 4).
We, the developer, have no ability to read this data. It never reaches any server we control, because no such server exists.
3. Data we collect: none
Locent does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal or financial data with the developer or with any third-party service for our benefit.
Specifically, the app does not:
- include any analytics, advertising, crash-reporting, or telemetry SDK;
- track your activity within the app or across other apps;
- require an account, email, phone number, or login with us (we have none);
- access your contacts, photos, precise location, microphone, or camera.
4. Optional Google Drive backup
Locent offers an optional backup feature so you can restore your data on a new device. You control whether this is ever used.
If you choose to connect Google Drive:
-
Sign-in: You sign in with your own Google account. Locent
requests only the
drive.appdatascope. This scope grants access to a hidden, app-specific folder in your Google Drive (the "application data folder") — it does not give the app access to any of your other Google Drive files, and no other app can read Locent's folder. - Encryption: Your data is packaged and encrypted on your device before it is uploaded. Only encrypted content leaves your phone.
- Destination: The encrypted backup is uploaded to your private Google Drive app-data folder. It is stored in your Google account, under your control. We never receive it, and we have no way to access your Drive.
- Restore: When you restore, Locent downloads your encrypted backup from your Google Drive and decrypts it on your device.
- Deletion: You can delete backups from within the app, and you can revoke Locent's access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account settings.
Your use of Google Drive is also governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Locent's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
5. Notifications
If you enable reminders (for example, for recurring transactions), Locent uses your device's local notification system to alert you. These notifications are generated on your device. No notification content is sent to us or to any third party, and we do not operate a push notification server.
You can grant or deny the notification permission, and change it at any time in your device's Android settings.
6. App updates
Locent checks for over-the-air (OTA) app updates using Expo's update service (EAS Update). This check sends only technical build and runtime information (such as the app's version and runtime identifier, along with the network request's own IP address) needed to determine whether a compatible update is available. It never includes any of your financial data or personal information. This is the only automatic network request the app makes that is not a backup or sign-in action you initiated.
7. Data sharing
We do not share your data with anyone, because we never receive it in the first place.
The only third party that ever holds your financial data is you, via your own Google account, when you choose to enable backups. In that case the data lives in your Google Drive under your control, and Google acts as your storage provider — not ours.
The one exception to "no third party" is the update check described in Section 6: it necessarily reaches Expo's servers, which therefore see the request's IP address and the app's version. That is a technical request about the app, not about you, and it carries none of your records.
8. Data retention and deletion
- On your device: Your data remains on your device until you delete individual records, clear the app's data, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling the app removes the local database from your device.
- In your Google Drive: Any backups you created remain in your Google Drive app-data folder until you delete them (from within Locent or via Google Drive) or revoke Locent's access. Because these files live in your account, you control their retention.
Since we hold none of your data, there is nothing for you to request from us and nothing for us to delete on our end.
9. Children's privacy
Locent is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any data from children — indeed, we do not knowingly collect data from anyone.
10. Security
Backups are encrypted on your device before upload using AES-256, and the encryption key is derived on-device. Your local database is stored in your app's private storage area, which Android isolates from other apps. Your Google Drive backups are further protected by your Google account's own security.
No method of electronic storage is perfectly secure, but because your data stays under your control and never reaches us, the attack surface is limited to your own device and your own Google account.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if the app gains new features. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised policy at the same location. Material changes will be reflected in an app update.
